Lucy Ward
Lucy Ward creates atmospheric prints about landscapes and the natural world. She is fascinated by the way changes in time, light or weather can make the familiar shift into something strange, full of possible stories.
Working primarily in sugar-lift aquatint, etching and drypoint, she aims to create a sensation of expectant stillness, like the frames of a film between scenes.
In her prints of wildlife, each bird or animal is based on an individual she has observed in its own habitat. Her drawings convey the character of that particular creature, recording that interaction and exploring watching and being watched. She draws attention to claws, feathers and beaks – the tools that have evolved to help the animal survive.
Lucy makes her prints at Thames-Side Studios in London and has exhibited at galleries and events including the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, Watts Contemporary Gallery and the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair.
