Art has always been at the root of all Jane's career decisions. She originally trained as a Primary School teacher at Brighton College of Education. She chose Teaching because of the opportunities of working with children creatively through Art. Wanting to work more in the world of Art she took a degree in Graphic Design at Kingston Polytechnic. This resulted in working as a Graphic Designer for Minale, Tattersfield and Partners, a top international design group in London. A further interest led to a foundation course at the Byam Shaw School of Art, after which she studied Fine Art at Cheltenham College of Art.
Jane’s training as a Graphic Designer is evident in her work through her love of colour, shape and rhythm. She moves between being purely non-referential to careful analytical observations of London scenes and interiors. More recently she has been inspired not only by the landscapes to be found in London, but also from her trips abroad. Through her unique vision she simplifies her observations into colourful geometric shapes, often incorporating her motif the stripe, but not always. Josef Albers and Bridget Riley are a great source of inspiration.
