After studying art at Thurrock, and Coventry School of Art & Design, Theresa worked as a freelance Illustrator using Linocut and Monoprint, editioning for artists, and learning about etching techniques. Together, with a group of fellow graduates, she was awarded a Prince’s Trust Grant to set up a Silk screen Workshop. Theresa eventually established her own etching studios in Kingsgate Workshops, Kilburn. She also formed Printmakers Inc. in 2010 with a group of established printmakers and is currently teaching printmaking at Hampstead School of Art. She has exhibited throughout the UK including the Royal Academy, Mall Galleries: “Originals” & “Bite” and the Barbican. Her work features in collections at the V&A, Metropolitan University, and worldwide. Theresa says, My thoughts keep turning to the beach. When I think of where I grew up in Gillingham, Kent. The nearest “beach” was The Strand, a pebbly stretch that was part of the Medway, or “Mudway” as we called it. Swimming was not enjoyed in that water, but in the nearby freezing Lido. We also had day trips to Margate, Ramsgate, and Dungeness! Which has its’ own beauty, with a mournful lighthouse foghorn. In those days it wasn’t famous for anything else other than the power station – we didn’t stay long. The beaches in Pembrokeshire are much more beautiful sometimes due to their geographical remoteness, but also because they are part of the coastal national parks, they remain unspoilt. The beach at Broadhaven is a place I most frequently visit, as the name implies it is a broad stretch of sandy seascape, with fascinating rock pools at its’ fringes. Water patterns and sandy textures are a current feature in my prints, but above all escape into the imagined underwater worlds.
