What's On

Katie Preston
Katie begins with photographs of fleeting or incidental moments, which she reduces using a mix of digital and analogue methods, breaking the image into simplified tonal and structural elements. The image is then rebuilt through layer upon layer of screenprinted colour, sometimes with an addition of coloured pencil marks. The final screenprints create a dreamlike version of everyday life, from flowers, trees and paths to bridges, streets and stations, influenced by a love of old woodblock prints and photographs and a nostalgia for childhood book illustrations. Katie lives and works in Wimbledon and can often be found sketching and photographing on Wimbledon Common. She is a director of Common Works Gallery CIC, which organises art events in southwest London, and also teaches screen printing and drawing.
