In Isolation, Anglesey in 2020. Screenprint 36x24cm NFS.jpg

Jane Stothart

Jane Stothert’s work is inspired by her summers spent in Anglesey, London and trips abroad. Her screenprints are multi layered based on sketches and photographs. From which she creates a collage of the image using coloured decorators tape allowing for flexibility. This transposed on tracing paper and squared off ready for the next stage. She uses a light blocking film to create her shapes, which are then exposed onto a screen with has been covered in photo emulsion. The screen is exposed to light and the emulsion is washed off leaving the required shape to print. Her etchings are completely different relying on line, tone and texture, whereas the screenprints are more graphic harking back to her training as a graphic designer. Art has been at the root of all her training and career decisions from teaching art at primary school level to going back to Kingston Poly to study graphic design, followed by a degree in painting at Cheltenham College of Art. She learnt to screenprint and etch at Putney School of Art, but has now set up her own screenprinting equipment in her studio in the garden. Her print In Isolation, Anglesey was selected by Yinke Sonibare at the 2021 Royal Academy Summer Show. She has work in collections abroad. She is a member of Southbank Printmakers and the Printmakers Council. www.janestothert.com #janestothertart
