Yoonjung Shim
Yoonjung Shim (b.1972 Seoul, South Korea) is a printmaker based in London and a member of Southbank Printmakers & Printmakers Council.
Her works explore the aesthetic of abstract, conceptual and geometric compositions in various kinds of etchings mostly within a small square format. With interests in architecture and spatial design, she portrays geometric patterns that we encounter in our everyday lives. Yoonjung loves the subtle inconsistencies created by human strokes, which convey faint unevenness and originalities that differ from digital computerized graphics. She also explores urban scenes through photo-etching which distills a photographic reality down to the bare essence of the original frame.
Her works have been exhibited in the UK and abroad including at the Summer Exhibition at Royal Academy, National Original Print Exhibition at Bankside Gallery in London, and the Manhattan Graphic Center in New York.
