In 1411, Lord Mayor Richard ‘Dick’ Whittington acquired the lease of the Leaden Hall site and gifted it to the City of London. The City of London Corporation has managed it ever
since.The original market was constructed in 1449 and later rebuilt in 1881. Dick Whittington died in 1423, never seeing the market’s full development.This print offers a ghostly vision of Dick and his cat wandering through the present-day Leadenhall Market—a timeless tribute to the man and the myth.
