Paula Boyd-Barrett
I studied BA Printmaking at WSCAD, taking it up again recently after attending a part-time course. My screenprints reflect my penchant for vibrant colour plus a passion for wildlife and our natural world. As children we were encouraged by our grandad to appreciate nature and he taught us the names of the flora and fauna we saw. I still enjoy long walks - I’m always on the lookout for potential subjects for my next print! My aim is to portray the characteristics of the creatures I’ve been so lucky to encounter. Working from my own photos and sketches as reference, I create detailed artwork which is then transferred onto a silkscreen to create stencils, which I use to hand-print all my images. Every colour I use requires different artwork and stencils to be prepared. My screenprints have been selected to show at Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition, Wildlife Artist of the Year, Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and Chelsea Arts Society, amongst others. My ‘Duck' screenprint was featured in the Royal Academy’s 2024 calendar for the month of February. I am a member of The Printmakers Council.
