Alison Lumb
Alison is interested in human psychology and perception. She is currently developing work inspired by liminal places and moments, in which we are suspended between one state and another. She is exploring how we are drawn to certain places in order to escape our daily routines and everyday selves.
Alison’s printmaking involves screen print and monoprint, sometimes in combination, going back and forth as the ideas develop. The photographic elements are often collages created from numerous photographic sources.
Alison studied at the City Lit (Fine Art Course) and Morley College (Advanced Painting Workshop) while pursuing her career as a television drama producer. She studied screen printing at the London Print Studio. She is a member of the UK Printmakers Council.
In 2015 Alison received the St Cuthbert’s Award for a work on paper in the Discerning Eye Exhibition in London. In 2017 her mini screen print PLAY entered the V & A’s print collection in a box set of work by the UK Printmakers Council.
Alison has exhibited at the Mall Galleries (Discerning Eye 2015 and 2018), the Royal Overseas League, Mayfair, Studio 1.1, Shoreditch, Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, Morley Gallery, Upstairs Gallery (Berkhamsted) and the Hertford Theatre Gallery.

BY THE WHARF I
THE WHARF, EVENING I
monoprint and screenprint
H22cm x W33cm
Framed £165 Unframed £130
This is one of a series of one-off hybrid prints which I made after observing people wandering along the edge of the river Thames at Gabriel’s wharf. It’s a place people seek out when they want to breathe out, kill time, or just enjoy the view.

SOUTHBANK

This multi-layered screenprint celebrates the area around the Oxo tower and Blackfriars bridge.
I have worked around this area in various capacities over the years and it is very important to me.
I often find myself going home from the Southbank Printmakers gallery at my favourite time, between day and night when everything turns a beautiful blue and the lights start to come on.
I wanted to capture that in a screen print – not realising initially that it would take 10 perfectly registered layers!

LONDON BRIDGE I LONDON BRIDGE ll
This building by the Thames, with its many intriguing reflections has long been a favourite of mine. I have had photographs of it in my archive for some time. It is an abstract composition waiting to happen. Once I came across the beautiful, organic, cyanotype process, I knew the two would combine beautifully.

WINTER JOURNEY II
25 x 35cm
Variable Edition of 6
Screen print and monoprint

This print was inspired by the winter landscape flying by the windows on a train journey down the east coast of England. As a passenger on a journey, we are partially removed from the outside world, and time is held in suspension for a while. We watch the world go by and allow our minds to let go.

LADY’S SLIPPER ORCHID II
From a series of prints reflecting on the impact we are having on the natural world.
This orchid is an endangered species. Not long ago, there was a single plant left in the UK, the exact location of which was kept secret. A few have since been reintroduced.
